RACC Proposal

Insects are ubiquitous and notorious for invading our spaces. We notice them and react in different ways depending on the insect and the circumstance. But whether we like it or not, they will find ways to appear to us. Insects are one of the many inevitable consequences that warmer weather brings, which is important to celebrate.

I propose installing an invasion of insects in the space. They will be made from Paper Maché and painted in a realistic style with acrylic paint. The insects will be arranged all over the walls, ceiling, and floor in a randomized order and in varying sizes. Some will be just a few inches long to a few feet long. There will be approximately 50 insects.

The Paper Maché will be created using Newspaper, Masking tape, Toilet paper, Joint compound, Elmer’s Glue-all, White Flour, and Linseed Oil. Most of these materials are easy to find and fairly inexpensive. The whole project will take 2 months to complete.

My intentions for this installation is to create a sense of an invasion in the space. It will undoubtedly inspire repulsion from some of the public, but hopefully an appreciation for insects as well.
